PoolTogether is the best way to save money. But getting started has been hard. It’s required downloading a wallet, storing private keys, and figuring out how to convert your money to tokens. Today, that’s all changing:
Saving with PoolTogether is now featured in the Coinbase app! Let’s have a look at what this means.
Coinbase is the largest cryptocurrency exchange worldwide, with more than 98 million users in 100 countries. It aims to be the way billions of people access the open financial system. One of Coinbase’s flagships is the mobile app, which is now the most popular way to access the Coinbase platform.
Just recently Coinbase made a big step by rolling out its dApp wallet and browser inside the Coinbase app (yes, the big one!). This update gives millions of new users access to Decentralized Finance tools like PoolTogether, Aave, and Compound.
Core Features:
Full self-custody
No need to store your private keys
Buy & sell assets with fiat
All in one app without friction. The Coinbase app makes using DeFi applications more effortless than ever before. Their integrated browser lets you explore and access web3 from within your Coinbase app while you have the option to directly buy and sell crypto with your bank account or credit card.
The update adds a dApp wallet that lives inside the Coinbase app but stores your funds at an on-chain wallet address. With this, Coinbase encourages its users to hold their funds in self-custody and makes it easy to send them between wallets.
The special twist — no need to manage your private keys. This is made possible by the Multi-Party Computation (MPC) technology, which helps you to secure your crypto by splitting up the key between Coinbase and you. In case you ever lose access to your device, Coinbase can still help you recover your funds!

PoolTogether is one of the first dApps featured within the new Coinbase app browser. Let’s look at the process of getting some USDC and depositing it into PoolTogether.
In order to use PoolTogether you need USDC (and a little bit of ETH for the transaction fees). Coinbase allows you to get both without additional fees and deposit directly into PoolTogether without even leaving the app.
Head to Trade at the bottom of your screen & select USDC
Enter the USDC amount, choose your payment method and tap on Preview buy
Validate your purchase and tap on Buy now
💡Reminder: Apart from USDC you will need a bit of ETH to cover the transaction fees on the Ethereum network.
If you haven’t done it before, you’ll need to activate your dApp wallet in order to interact with DeFi applications. But no worries — that’s 2 clicks!
Open the Browser on the bottom menu of your screen
A pop-up will appear introducing the dApp browser
Select ‘Continue’, review the terms, and select ‘Agree and get started’
The next step is to fund your newly created dApp wallet with assets from your Coinbase account. Open the Assets page at the bottom menu of the app.
Click on the wallets tab at the top of the app and select your dApp wallet
Select Add ETH
Select Transfer within Coinbase
Enter the ETH amount you wish to transfer and hit Preview transfer
Review the details and select Transfer now
Repeat the same process to transfer your USDC.
Open the Coinbase dApp browser located at the bottom right of your app and find PoolTogether on the Earn tab or by using the search.
From here, making a deposit only takes three simple steps:
Enter the deposit amount & tap on Review
Approve the USDC tokens
Confirm your deposit
Now you’re all set for saving and winning prizes. Prize draws happen daily and you can come back whenever you want to check for prizes.
You stay eligible to win as long as you are deposited. If you ever want to stop saving with PoolTogether you can withdraw your USDC and all accrued prizes from the account tab in the app.
This feature has been rolled out in >90 countries. EU & UK users still have to be patient a little longer.
This is currently only available for Ethereum so it makes sense for larger depositors. We anticipate it will be available for other networks very soon.
PoolTogether is the on-ramp to the decentralized world. Together with Coinbase, we’ll onboard the next million people. Join us in growing the world’s savings protocol, and with it its prizes.
